Canada Pooch 2022 Fall/Winter Dog Parka Haul & Review
PUGS IN PARKAS. #PARKAPUGS. IT’S A THING NOW.
If you are a fellow pug, Frenchie, or bulldog owner, you’re likely pretty familiar with the challenge of finding pet apparel that actually fits the odd shapes and sizes of these sweet and squishy dogs - barrel-chested, too short, too long, too tall, not tall enough, no neck, top-heavy, a few rolls too many… the list goes on and on.
While finding the right fit can be extremely frustrating, I’m here to let you in on a little secret - did you know that there is a Toronto-based pet apparel design company founded by a fellow pug rescue mom who knows the struggle?!
Canada Pooch has entered the chat - a company that prides itself on designing high-quality apparel and accessories for dogs that are crafted for a perfect fit with sizing options that range from size 8 to 36, accommodating a large range of breeds and their individual body shapes.
Recently, we picked out a few items from Canada Pooch’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection to prepare Jonas, Fern, and Ivy for the cooler weather as temperatures continue to drop out here in the Kootenays. We then, of course, made our way to the top of a mountain at the crack of dawn, overlooking Kootenay Lake and the valley we call home to take epic #pugtography photos showing off our sweet new seasonal gear!
I’m excited to share the incredible shots we managed to capture of the pugs at the top of Mount Buchanan with Jesse “The Pugtographer”, along with a review of three Canada Pooch parkas:
Let’s get into it!
Alaskan Army Parka in army green (Size 16-18 FOR most PUGS)
Price: From $51 CAD
Features:
Two colours to choose from: Army Green and Salt & Pepper
Sherpa lining and faux fur trim on hood
Water-resistant canvas exterior
Faux-down insulation
Adjustable dual velcro closure along the belly
One of Canada Pooch’s best sellers, the Alaskan Army Parka, is a functional winter parka with a luxurious sherpa lining and faux-fur trim on the hood. It was the first parka I put on Jonas, and I couldn’t believe how cute it was.
This parka has a water-resistant canvas exterior, faux-down insulation, and a thick, extra strong & secure adjustable dual velcro closure along the belly. It also has super cute brass-colored button and buckle details along with two little pockets on the lower back/bum area!
The first thing we noticed when outfitting Jonas with this parka in particular is that the size runs small, which seems to be pretty on par with most of the reviews on Canada Pooch’s website. It fit mostly everywhere except Jonas’ armpits, where the fit was really tight. We ordered a size 16, but unless your pug is very petite, I would recommend going up a size and ordering a size 18 for a little extra pit room.
The Alaskan Army Parka comes in two colours: Army Green (100% cotton shell) and Salt & Pepper (97% polyester, 3% spandex shell). We chose the Army Green, but both of them are beautiful!

True North Parka in reD (size 16 for most pugs)
Price: From $56 CAD
Features:
Water-resistant exterior
Elevated colour block design
Fleece lining
Heavyweight, thick insulation for maximum warmth
Dual velcro closure
Canada Pooch’s True North Parka is their warmest winter parka for those extra cold walks. It’s VERY thick and puffy, and reminds me of an arctic winter coat that would be made for a person.
In fact, it was so well-insulated that that the Truth North Parka was actually far too heavy for Jonas as a senior puggy with mobility limitations. Not long after we put it on him and snapped a few photos, he ended up lying down in the grass due to all of the extra weight swaddling his body.
While this parka was definitely a bit too much for Jonas, and might be a bit too much for any pug in their late senior years or with disabilities, the True North Parka would be incredibly warm and functional for younger, stronger dogs who live in extremely cold locations. In addition to red, this parka comes in silver reflective, pink, and yellow, and they’re all gorgeous.

Eco+ True North Parka in marble (size 16 for most pugs)
Price: From $68 CAD
Features:
Water-resistant exterior
Unique translucent design that allows you to see the marbled effect of recycled insulation
Fleece-lined
Heavyweight, thick insulation
Dual-velcro closure
Made from over 90% recycled materials
Canada Pooch’s Eco+ True North Parka is an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to their classic True North Parka (featured above). With the same general style, the Eco+ True North Parka cuts the weight of the jacket literally in half, if not more.
Made from 90% recycled materials, the shell is made of thin, translucent 100% polyester that reveals the marbled effect of a 75% recycled polyester and 25% graphene filling.
Jonas was SO much more comfortable in this parka. It’s completely lightweight, without compromising on total body warmth. It fits his body like a glove, and he looked mighty handsome (not the hardest thing to accomplish!)
Canada Pooch’s Eco+ True North Parka only comes in Marble, which we absolutely love. Of all three parkas Jonas tried on and modelled, this one was by far the best for our needs.

BONUS: Canada Pooch’s Soft Shield Dog Booties (SIZE 2)
Since Jonas was wearing his new Canada Pooch Soft Shield Dog booties in some of the photos we took, I decided to include them in this review because THEY! ARE! AMAZING!
Priced at $63 for a pack of four, they are literally worth every penny.
Features:
Water-resistant
Protects agains snow, rain, and mud
Ultra-wide opening
Adjustable cinch toggle and reflective straps
Grippy, rubber soles
My favourite thing about these boots is how tall they are. They’re not bulky at all (Jonas, Fern, and Ivy refuse to even move an inch if their boots are heavy or awkward on their dainty little feet), and while there was a moment where one of the booties slipped off a little bit, I was easily able to slide it right back up and re-adjust the velcro strap & elastic toggle.
Canada Pooch’s Soft Shield Reflective Boots come in black, green camo, pink, and red, all with a reflective velcro strap at the ankle. Honestly, you could pair these with their slush or snow suits for a full-body coverage experience which would be simultaneously hilarious, and amazing!

What Size PARKA IS Best for pugs?
We measured Jonas, Fern, and Ivy using Canada Pooch’s Size Chart tools and determined that size 16 was the best size to order for all three of them. With the exception of the Alaskan Army Parka, which runs small (I would recommend ordering up a size), size 16 was perfect for both the True North Parka and the Eco+ True North Parka.
Canada Pooch also has a “Calculate My Size” feature where you can enter your dog’s back length and chest girth (in either cm or inches) to receive custom sizing recommendations:
They also offers virtual fittings via Zoom to consult on the best size and fit for your dog! You can book a virtual fitting with them here.
In Conclusion…
Grumble Farm’s following and readership comes from all corners of the globe. Surprising, even though we live in Canada, very few of our followers do! Sometimes, this can make it a little tricky to share our favourite products with people, especially if shipping is only available within Canada.
Thankfully, Canada Pooch currently ships to the USA, Puerto Rico, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom - so even if you’re not up here in Canada with us, you can still get your paws on these epic Puggy Parkas (and winter booties) no probs 🙂
Be sure to tag us on Instagram if you do end up outfitting your pug or dog in one of Canada Pooch’s fall/winter parkas - we love to see it!
